RYA First Aid Course (1 Day)

We all love boating because of the freedom it gives us, but we also know there is potential for danger.  Did you know that when you’re in the Solent, you’re at least 20 minutes from safety if something does go wrong?

Learning a little First Aid would surely put your mind at rest! If something did go wrong, you would know what to do and it could help save someone’s life.  Our 1 day RYA First Aid Course covers every likely medical situation you may come across when afloat.   Everything from spending too long in the sun to more serious head injuries or sudden health problems.

Our next RYA First Aid course is Friday 27th June. To book call Matt on 02392 397000.

New RYA Sea School set up at Trafalgar Wharf

RYAAt JBT Marine, we specialise in RIB and Powerboat training and offer an array of training courses including RYA Powerboat Level 2, VHF and First Aid Courses, Own Boat Tuition and RYA advanced Powerboat Exams.

Is JBT Marine Training for me?

JBT Marine has been running since the turn of the century and over that time we believe we have accumulated a great knowledge base which we would like to share.  Our courses are run by a handful of highly qualified instructors, many of which are full time staff.

We believe the best way to learn is in a relaxed environment where you can ask as many questions as you need and practice any manoeuvre until you are 100% happy with it.

If you come to us for a shore-based course we will have a maximum of 6 - 8 people per instructor. For a practical course we will adapt the tuition around you and your personal needs and we can even train you on a boat specific to your needs.

All of our training is carried out in one of our training rooms on site and practical courses use an up to date training RIB with Colour GPS and Depth Sounder, Hydraulic steering, electric start engine and secure seating for all on-board.

We also offer ladies only courses and practical group courses for up to 9 people between various craft giving you that all important experience in different boats.

Alex “One Man and His Dog” Dubois Secures His 25 Years Guarding Trafalgar Wharf

Kylie Minogue was number one in the charts with ‘Hand on Your Heart’, Ford was selling bucket loads of the Escort, and Arsenal won the Football League, when, Fareham man Alex Dubois joined Vosper Thorneycroft as a security officer.

25 years on from the 8th May 1989 and Alex is still working at Trafalgar Wharf as a guard for Securitas, but now it’s motor boats and super yachts he’s guarding rather than secret army and navy vessels.

“I’ve always been a security officer, even before VT, I was in security for a packaging firm,” Alex says.

“Making sure everything is taken care of and secure is something I’m proud to do. I’ve been here at Trafalgar longer than I’ve been married and not many people work in the same place for a quarter of a century. I’ve been lucky.”

Alex’s wife Lyn may not have known him before VT, but she did drive a hard bargain when he asked her to marry him.

“She made me promise to buy her a Belgian Shepherd dog before she would say yes.  It wasn’t a deal breaker and we’re now on our third dog.”

It’s nice that despite the massive changes taking place in the marine industry in Portsmouth, a little bit of loyalty does bring its rewards.
